Introduction Youngstown is the county seat of Mahoning County and covers a total area of 88.7 km² (34.2 mi²) of which 87.8 km² (33.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is water. The community was named after a local mill owner, John Young.
Youngstown is on the Mahoning River, lying 65 miles southeast of Cleveland and approximately 62 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
